One a trip to Nova Scotia a few years ago, we decided to take a road that was beautiful and very remote.  We were almost out of gas and I was sure there would be a place to buy gas somewhere ahead.  Well....there wasn't  we ran completely out of gas and this is what was outside my driver's side window.  I walked to a nearby  house and the kind man gave us some gas that he was storing for his lawn mower.  The mailbox had been smashed and was barely hanging onto it's post.
